Clayton
Alexander - In Memoriam submitted
by Russ Thomas
I thought I would post some information on "Clay" as
most of you knew him by. After graduation I saw him often. Butch
had joined the Coast Guard in order to not get drafted. I think his
lottery number was "1." By
1971 he had started his own lawn service and had gotten most of the
equipment he needed for his business. He had a wonderful girlfriend,
think her name was Kathy, and I think he was preparing to marry her.
He really seemed happy with how things were working out. The circumstances
of his death were a little vague. He was an accomplished surfer and
swimmer at Fenwick Island, Delaware. He spent the summers there his
whole life at his parents shore home. On Memorial Day morning 1972,
he got up early to go surfing. Some folks, including a nurse and
a doctor were on the beach when someone rescued him. All their efforts
were futile and there was some talk that some other medical problem
was really to blame. His parents felt there was no need for an autopsy
and that was the end of it. There are some things that stay with
you forever, this is one. |

Pamela Anderson Sigg
I've been married almost 32 years and have had six children. My youngest,
Katie, just turned 19 and is the last one living at home. Our older
children are married and have blessed us with four grandchildren
- the light of our lives and worth getting old for! I've been blessed
with that big, happy family I was hoping for! My husband and I have
owned a landscape contracting business in Charlotte, North Carolina
for the past 22 years. We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints and have been for 30 years. Our lives revolve
around each other, our children and grandchildren, our business,
and our church. I love reading the profiles and catching up and I
appreciate the work all of you have put into this project. |

Paul
J. Barbero - In Memoriam submitted
by Paul Bartholomew
Let me tell you how hard it was to loose Paul
Barbaro (who is buried at the Catholic cemetery on Orange St). It
was a closed coffin and I remember being with Steve Allen. We were
very angry that this had happened. Paul was my best friend. He lived
with me in Washington when I was in college. I remember with gratitude
the high school morning announcements when "the following will report to Mr.
Fertel." It was always Paul. Never me. He came from Media and
I was a PHS guy. He was a tough guy with a '56 Ford and an attitude.
Little did I know what a sensitive young man he was.
It wasn't until after graduation I
really came to know Paul. He became my brother. We did drugs, road
really fast motorcycles and loved women. We grew up just a little.
I had immersed myself in the rigors of pursuing a BA. Paul was into
music and his guitar. I visited Paul in Florida near Tampa where
he had married a local girl. His heart always took precedence over
his intellect. And most of you don't remember his intellect. Paul
had a better all encompassing view of the world then than most of
us have established since age 25. I cherish his absolute freedom
from convention. But one night his free spirit got into a muscle
car in Tampa and after too many beers they drove over the abutments
of a bridge between Tampa and Zepher Hills and plunged into the river
below. That's why it was a closed box funeral and why Steve Allen
and I were so angry.
My class at flight school lost 60%
in the tour of 1971. But the loss of Paul was very sad. He was so
full of the best qualities of life. He was gentle and loving. Most
of all he was funny. I'll never forget seeing him sitting under the
Marine Corps Memorial in Arlington drunk as a skunk playing his guitar
and singing the Marine Hymn and Robert Johnson blues. Baby you can
dust my broom. While many of my friends lost their lives in the military,
they all took the oath and pledged their lives. Paul never figured
on that kind of death. Hell, he never figured on death at all. But
when he died in 1978 in a totally avoidable wreck, a little of me
died with him. There is not a day that goes by that I don't see my
own 18 year old son in his 1976 Trans Am with a 450hp engine going
the way Paul did. All you can do is pray, because souls such as Paul's
cannot be harnessed. You have, most of you, had children. Blessed
are you who have had a son like Paul Barbero. |

Paul

Went to George Washington University and got a BA in strategic studies
otherwise known then as thermonuclear warfare. There wasn't much
future in that so I went to Widener Law School and studied mans'
inhumanity to man. Got married. Studied womens' inhumanity to man.
Got divorced. Got married again. Sent wife to law school so she could
be independent. Met with great success there. Got divorced. Practiced
law for 25 years. Hated most of it. Learned where too many bodies
were buried. Quit that, moved to Vermont and went to sea. Got a job
driving tugs out of Hampton Roads up and down the East and Gulf Coasts
pushing petroleum, fish oil, sulfuric acid, soy beans and other bulk
items essential to American commerce. Honest. Now there was a fine
experience. It is like driving a truck with the added possibility
of drowning. Left that and managed a big marina in Delaware for 4
years. Left there and sailed down to Florida in a 58' steel ketch
last March. We really meant to go to the Bahamas. Had butt kicked
black and blue. Then sailed the same boat to Ireland in May. Got
butt royally kicked. Now I hate the North Atlantic and all the boats
that float on it.
I am at present waiting for my son
to graduate from Phelps School in Malvern, so we are living in
Media. I'm not going back to Vermont. It's too cold. Paul is accepted at
ASU so we are going to Phoenix this summer. No ocean there. My
brother has a small manufacturing business and I'm sitting here at the computer
writing a business plan so I can get the SBA to pay for whatever
it is I am going to do when I grow up. Hey Chuck. I didn't get
any older either. It will be worth our trip back to PA to see all these
old people.
In Memoriam:
— an excerpt from the Fall 2007 issue
of the Helm, an internet Publication of the Classic Yacht Restoration
Guild, in Maryland. Note: an ELF is a classic yacht.
A celebration
of life!
Paul L. Bartholomew, III
December 13,1950 - September 13, 2007
It is with great sadness to me that I have to report
the loss of a good friend. Paul was very excited
about so many things in life. He loved the water
sports on many types of boats, and worked hard to keep
them afloat. It seemed to me that sanding and putting
countless coats of varnish on ELF’s bright work made
him happy. He loved to make her bright-works simply
shine to show off the beautiful woodwork. Another
item that really impressed me is that he made a scale
model of ELF’s rig to be sure of how it worked, with
special attention paid to the topsail, and Jack Yards. He
always wanted to know how something worked, and
would research the item to the finest detail. And better
yet, be able to explain it to everyone in a logical fashion,
I do truly miss Paul.
As a man he was humble, honorable, and kind to
others. There are those of you who knew Paul as a
man who did not care much about impressing others
about material things, as a man who did not care
much about wealth, or a resume of personal accomplishments.
As his friend I knew that none of these
things were important to him, he was too busy doing
what he did best, helping us, reassuring us and just
being there in time of need.
One of his favorite quotes: “What a beautiful day,
what could possibly go wrong!" |

Mary Sharleen Bavis Nickson
Hi everyone – I have been married since
Aug of '69 (to the same man) - that is practically forever. We have
three children, Michael, 27, employed by General Motors in Delaware,
Kelly, almost 24, who is a great hair stylist, and last but not least,
Ryan, 19, in his first year at DCCC looking to transfer in September.
We just had our first granddaughter, Kacie Lynn on July 27th. She
is all that and then some. I am currently employed with Anthony and
Sylvan Pools as a sales administrator in Newark, DE. My husband has
been employed many years as a diesel mechanic for Penske Truck Leasing.
I am still keeping in touch with Lois Hetherington (Riley, Mace),
and have been to Dallas, TX two times to visit - her daughter is
my god-daughter. It is nice to stay in touch, but even though I am
still relatively close to Penncrest, haven't seen anyone in many
years. See ya!! |

J.
Clark Bongaardt
In Fall of '68 I went to Villanova to work on my Bachelors degree.
In '70, due to finances I went to work full time and went part time
at nights for the next 6 years finally getting my BA degree. During
that time on May 25, 1974, Sallie and I married and lived in West
Chester. We commuted on a daily basis with one car between my work
place - Media, her school - West Chester, her workplace - Springfield
and my school at Villanova. We put thousands of miles on the car.
In 1978 I started law school full
time at Delaware Law School of Widener University where I received
my JD degree in 1981. I took the July bar exam and was admitted in
October, 1981. Between the bar exam and admission I began working
as an independent contractor basis for the law firm of Auritt and
Daly in Media. After admission I began the private practice of general
civil law in Media where I have stayed and am now a partner in the
firm of Daly, O'Brien & Bongaardt, P.C.
In August between my second and third
years of law school (1980), we became parents of our only son, Ian,
who will be graduating this May from East Stroudsburg University.
Our eldest daughter, Britton, who was also born in August (1984)is
graduating from Springfield HS this May. She is also headed to college
but has yet to decide which one. She's been accepted to all six she
applied and so far has been awarded several academic scholarships.
We're waiting to here from the others.
Our youngest "surprise" Kylie
came along ten years later and is presently in 1st grade. When she
graduates I will be sending my Social Security checks to the college
of her choice.
I'll let you all be the first to know, that
this coming July 1st we will be opening a new business in Delaware
County called "Comfort Keepers", a non medical service
to senior citizens to allow them to remain at home for longer and
to relieve their families of some of the logistic problems of caring
for their parents. Some of the things we are providing are companionship
services, transportation to doctors visits and shopping, light house
work, and light meal preparation, progress reporting to the family,
telephone calling, etc.
Well that's the story. |

Following high school, life has been full of blessings and challenges.
I graduated from Drexel and Vanderbilt Universities, and became a
registered Dietitian, and worked in that field for 3 years. Since
then my life has revolved around family, church, and music. I now
work at a large Presbyterian church as the music administrator and
at Blair School of Music as the administrator of the Children's Choir
program. Some of the things that we have been involved in are: a
homeless ministry, foster care, prison ministry, a variety of choirs.
My husband Bill and I have been married
for 28 years, and have 4 children and have had several foster children.
Our 2nd child was actually our first foster child and was adopted
when I was in labor with child number 4. Our oldest Rachel is currently
in the mission field in Romania working with street children. Pam
is living at home and working at Lifeway. Jacqueline is working on
her doctorate at OSU, in Math. Nicholas is at Carnegie Mellon studying
math. |

Entered the Navy in 1968 with intention of only
spending 4 years. 7 years later I decided to call it a day. Attended
college and went to work. Spent summers in Avalon trying to stay
young for as long as I could. In 1979 I met my match and got married
in 1980 to my one and only wife, Eileen, (sorry Mom, you can meet
nice girls in bars). 23 years later we have 3 kids, 2 boys 21 and
19, and "the
Princess", 15. Life has been great, I am working for the Philadelphia
Inquirer and still stay in touch with "old friends" who
count. Hope to make the reunion in July, I will be the one with the
white hair. |

I've been married twice, second time to a BROWN. I have three children
and three grandchildren. I am an executive chef at a hotel - keeps
me busy. Middlebury Center, PA.
UPDATE: I'm sorry I missed the reunion, it looks like it turned out
well. Since I submitted my profile, I bought a restaurant here, in
Tioga County, Pa. It's Brown's Country Restaurant and Bakery. I decided
it was time to work for myself. You would be surprised at the number
of people from Delaware County that live in this area. So if anyone
travels this way stop in! |

I was married before graduation and moved to
Reading, PA. Later moved to Harrisburg and after seven years moved
to Indiana, PA and since 1990 have lived in Pittsburgh—way different than Media. In
1981 I went into business for myself opened a business and communications
center in Indiana, PA—first computer $14,000! I sold the business
in 1991 and went to work for a chemical company. In 1995, the chemical
company was sold to then, Morton Salt. I opted to return to self-employment,
but with no employees this time. I have been designing and developing
web sites and web and CD catalogs for over 3 years—for Emeril
Lagasse, All-Clad Metalcrafters, Black Box and others of known reputation.
My son, 34, is a C++ and Java programmer (government and military
projects) for "WorldCom" in Sacramento—at least he
was still there last week. It is nice to see profiles of others here
whom I haven't seen forever. |

I wanted to update my profile since the 35th reunion has come and
gone. It truly was a tremendous occasion. I do hope everyone on the
reunion committee received my big thank-you. It was sent with much
gratitude. The reunion for all of us was an opportunity to reconnect
to the class of 1968. However personally, it was more than that!
It brought me in touch with many dear neighborhood souls I grew up
with on Mancil Road. Also it was a reminder of how precious life
is, how much we miss loved ones that have passed on, and how necessary
it is to embrace each other because we are all fellow sojourners.
Yes, I feel most blessed to be a part of one of the coolest classes
ever. Wishes of safe keeping till we meet again or when we gather
for our next reunion! Take care! |

I have been somewhat of a vagabond by moving around the eastern part
of the United States. I attended college at Georgia Tech and worked
in Atlanta, GA, as an environmental engineer. I also attended graduate
school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and worked in Memphis,
TN, as a chemical engineer(I was there when Elvis died and worked
with a guy who went to high school with him). I have worked in Brevard,
NC, as a research engineer, West Chester, PA, as an environmental
consultant, Easton, PA, as an assistant professor of chemical engineering,
and Lionville, PA, as a process engineer.
A few years ago I helped put my wife
through Princeton Theological Seminary by teaching chemistry at South
Brunswick High School in Monmouth Junction, NJ. I now reside in Bradenton,
FL, because my wife accepted the call to be the Associate Pastor
at Palma Sola Presbyterian Church. Currently, I am teaching chemistry
and physical science at Palmetto High School but hope to get back
into environmental engineering. |

I served 7-1/2 years in the US Navy Submarine Service as a Missile
Technician. I met my wife, Margie (a Maryland girl), when I was stationed
in Charleston, SC. I have been married to the same wonderful woman
for almost 29 years and have been blessed with three children and
three grandchildren. Being a grandfather is great, the only hard
part is getting used to the idea of sleeping with a grandmother.
We live in Eldersburg, Maryland near all the kids and grand kids.
After leaving the Navy in 1976, I started my career as a systems
analyst at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
(APL) in Laurel Maryland. Completed a BS in Computer Science at the
University of Maryland in 1986. During my career I have had the opportunity
to work on numerous interesting projects including Missions Operations
for the successful NASA Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) mission,
the first spacecraft ever to orbit and then land on a small asteroid
in deep space! I am currently a senior engineer at APL providing
full time technical support (read:Star Wars Rocket Scientist) to
the DoD's new Missile Defense Agency (MDA), previously the Ballistic
Missile Defense Organization (BMDO). I am also a 9/11 survivor of
the terrorist attack on the Pentagon, but that's another story. |

Charles
Diggins
My
four years at Penn State ended abruptly with
degrees in Anthropology and Spanish. Took some
classes at Tufts then worked a few years as a
neuropsychological technician at Spitzs
Neurosurgical Clinic for Brain-Damaged Children
in Morton. Funny how working for four years with
brain-surgeons rekindled my interest in oceanography.
So I obtained a graduate fellowship at the University
of Delaware in Marine Geophysics. Quickly concluded
that seasickness is worse than virtually any
kind of death. Married Glenda Rickards (Penncrest
73) and, no, I wasnt dating a 7th grader
when I was Penncrest senior! Got my first career
job as a research geophysicist at Western Geophysical
in Houston. This involves writing new, exciting
software to help the worlds oil companies
rape the earth so we can drive our Suburbans
and Excursions to the reunion. Hated Houston.
Got transferred to start a new research group
in Denver and discovered that the oceans had
departed the area millions of years earlier (the
final blow to my oceanographic aspirations).
Moved to England for a few years with our 3 kids
(the little angels!) Then I got transferred,
kicking and screaming, back to Houston. Quit
Western shortly thereafter and went to VP a small
geophysical company in Boulder called Green Mountain
Geophysics. With a friend started my own geophysical
software company called "Maverick Geophysics" in
Boulder. 16 months later, a Norwegian company
called PGS bought Maverick. I would have been
rich were it not for my 3 teenagers. I was signed
to a 5-year contract of which 1 year remains.
I hope to create a new company soon. Other than
my geophysics, Im an avid photographer
and am writing linguistic software. Eclipsing
all of this, in August I go to Florida to hopefully
buy a 1980 Porsche 911SC from a friend. Bill
Haines is going to meet me there and race me
in his vette. Like Paul B., I wonder what
it feels like to grow up. BTW, with all my years
in school, I am convinced that Mrs. Morton/Gonzalvez
(Span I-IV) is the best teacher I have ever had.
And does anyone know what became of Charles Holland,
the substitute Spanish teacher who drove the
gold GTO convertible? |

Erickson
Had a wonderful 4 years at the University of Michigan as an anthropology
student and an antiwar activist. Became involved in women's health
advocacy, spent a year on bicycle in europe with husband (David Greenberg),
then came back to Boston to go to school to become a Physician Assistant.
As a PA I spent a year in Boston, three years in rural Maine, and
have settled in rural Western Massachusetts with my technology-crazy
husband and kids. I love being a PA, a mom, a gardener, weaver, bicyclist
and xc skier. My kids are 12 and 16 and remarkable soccer players
students and xc ski racers. |

I moved to Arizona 24 years ago where we live
in a high plains and pine mountain area. I've been married to my
wife, Robbin, for 20 years, a great home maker and a part time Dental
Hygienist. Our 18 year old son is starting this fall at U.of A. on
academic scholarships and our 12 year old daughter is wonderful in
every way. We have a great time together, skiing the western states
in the winter and taking in beaches in the western states in the
summer. I built up a business over the last 17 years. I sold off
the retail part of of my business which consisted of spas, pools,
wood, gas and pellet stoves and fireplaces 5 years ago. I continue
to contract the building of pools and spas (www.CustomSpasAndPools.com).
I have for the last 10 years and continue to coach 7 to 15 year old
boys and girls recreational soccer and basketball teams. We also
try to be active in the community, particularly in any way that affects
our children. My wife and I also play coed softball. Other than all
that I'm still out of control, I just have to be less obvious about
it. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you soon. |

Got my BA ('72) and MBA ('75) from Northwestern
Univ. (Never leave a good party school!) Joined Colgate Palmolive
(CP) in NYC. Moved to Zürich, Switzerland ('78) with CP and met my wife Debbie,
a dental hygienist; got married and on with CP to Hamburg, Germany
('80) where we had our first son; then with CP to Johannesburg, So.
Africa ('82) where second son was born; then as CP general manager
to Vienna, Austria in '85 (no more kids, just fun); switched as managing
director/COO of Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising in Frankfurt, Germany
('88); then to vp marketing at RJ Reynolds Tobacco (RJR) in Cologne,
Germany ('92); then regional vp marketing AsiaPacific with RJR in
Hong Kong ('97); next regional vp marketing AsiaPacific & global
general manager "Salem" in Geneva, Switzerland ('00) after
Japan Tobacco bought RJR (Yeah, I smoke, but mostly cigars and "funny" cigarettes);
took the money from JT and ran to NetJets Europe (part of Executive
Jet Inc. / Birkshire Hathaway) in Rotkreuz, Switzerland as vp marketing
Europe ('01). Damn, guess I like traveling. But after all that you'd
think I'd speak more than just English and German fluently and enough
French to get into trouble.
Also into skiing, hiking, mountain
biking and some rock climbing in the Alps and scuba diving in the
Maldives. Anniversary #22 coming up 3/02. Son, Matt (20), is flight
instructor at Executive Jet in Columbus, OH and younger son, Gavin
(18), finishes boarding school in Florida this year, then to Ohio
U for aviation management. Debbie (mostly) and I spend time between
our home near West Palm Beach, FL and our apartment here in Switzerland
- all with our dog Jake. I'm trying not to get too old before August
next year! (But, after reading this I feel really old or really bored,
can't decide which). Come visit us sometime - yeah, we got a spare
bed! |

I've been living north of the 61st parallel for more than half my
life, moved here in 1975 to work on the trans-alaska oil pipeline.
I knew Alaska was home when I arrived. I took a degree in geology
from Lehigh, and I'd bet I'm one of few college grads who is still
in the same field as his degree. I am a geologist for the State of
Alaska. I travel less than I did years ago, but I've had the privilege
to see much of this fine state. My family (Cindy, Lauren 15, Cameron
10) now commands most of my attention. We enjoy quiet sports - biking,
XC skiing, sea kayaking, canoeing - and I've built several wilderness
cabins that we travel to, summer and winter. We live in a log home
on a mountainside north of Anchorage, town is called Chugiak. |

Stewart "Bill" W.
Gambrill Jr.
Joined Army. Attended flight school. A tour
in Vietnam - helicopter pilot. Got lucky. Made it home pretty much
in one piece...sort of. Beach bum in Daytona Beach for a while. Really
liked it there! Went back home for a while in order to regroup before
becoming a total waste. Back to Daytona Beach to attend Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical Univ. Like I said, I really liked it there. BS degree
in Aeronautics. Kept flying, but wasn't sure about making it a career.
Eventually decided it was wrong to be paid to do something that is
so much fun. Changed career path. Attended Palmer College of Chiropractic
in Davenport, Iowa. It's very cold there...and boring, too! In private
practice for 21 years. Pracice at home, which is really nice. Only
practicing part-time now. Was married in 1979. Three wonderful children,
Billy, Chrissy, and Linda. A few years ago, wife decided she liked
someone else and left. Marriage lasted 19 years. Thought that was
the end, but found it was just the beginning. My kids all chose to
stay with me. Good choice. I'm a great dad! Met my true soul mate
and the love of my life, Debbie. We were married last October (2001)
Debbie is a Penncrest grad, too. Class of 73. She has three great
kids, too. Jennifer, Jon, and Julie. We're known by friends and neighbors
as the "Brady
Bunch". Still have 4 kids at home, and now have a granddaughter
with us, too, Kayla Marie, 14 months old. Also 2 dogs and 4 cats.
Never a dull moment, as you can imagine. Continue to have a love
for flying. Got a seaplane rating a few years ago. Am building a
small airplane from plans, but the project is presently stalled.
Ted & Mike, you surely get the pun. Still enjoy playing pool
and in a league off/on. Also in a bowling league. Debbie and I enjoy
the outdoors, boating, fishing (saltwater) just being in or on the
water. We spend the majority of our weekends (April-Oct.) at our
place on Chincoteague Island, Virginia. We enjoy music, going out
where there's a D.J. or a good 70's-80's band. Enjoy music trivia.
You might find us at the Purple Moose on the O.C. Maryland boardwalk
on some Saturdays in the summer. I also enjoy woodworking and such
and have become pretty handy with hammer
and saw over the years. We're presently remodeling our home top
to bottom, slowly but surely, and planning another addition...to
the house, not the family! With our youngest still in 10th grade,
it will be a while before we have an "empty nest," but
looking forward to less work and more play, travel and such. All
in all, life has been quite rewarding and very good to me. I feel
extremely fortunate and most thankful. I think about so many of
you so very often, and hope your lives have been as wonderful as
mine. My love and best wishes to all of you. |

Hi.
If your reading this it means we went to Penncrest
together. If you don't remember me that is my
fault not yours. I was such a party animal in
school I am afraid I did not pay attention to
most of you. For that I apologize.
I graduated from Penn State in '72.
I was interested in Wall Street but ended up doing Disaster Relief
for Uncle Sam. That led to employment in the insurance industry.
I followed the storms for several years. There are nicer areas of
this country but this area will always be home. I returned in the
late "70's and got a real job.
I married my bride of 19 years in
the '80's. My wife is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
I know this because she tells me—often. I cleaned up pretty
good but she still buys my clothes (some things are important others
are not). I will admit that I was somewhat afraid of teenage girls
in high school. I had 5 sisters and had developed a strong survival
instinct. I now have 2 teenage daughters and realize I had reason
to be afraid all those years ago. I used to lament when they were
little that I could not wait to be able to converse with them. They
learned to speak and I have not had a moments peace since. I used
to think kids should come with owners manuals but experience has
taught me I was wrong. As a parent, I was certainly better off being
surprised then knowing what was around the corner.
I became nostalgic a year ago and
decided the best way to meet old friends was a class reunion. It
was easy to find others interested and this project began. I have
met some you in person, others by phone or Email. I have enjoyed
the experience. Some of us met in kindergarten. If I have done the
math correctly, we will have known each other 48 years by the time
this reunion becomes reality. Our education is a common event in
our lives which bonds us. We had an opportunity to renew that bond
in July '03. |

Well, never got to be in the FBI (might have been a good
idea based on today's events) but gravitated instead toward the military.
Went into the Navy for 6 years and then became an physical oceanographer
via Kutztown University (Kutztown, PA). Worked for various US Government
contractors for 15 years in the US and Japan (based out of Washington,
DC). Got married late in life (has it's advantages - I'm still married
to the same wife), but still have managed to accumulate two kids,
two birds, four turtles, a fish, a dog, cars, mortgages, computers,
most of you know the drill... Finally decided to become a civilian
government employee and was working 1 mile from the Pentagon on 9/11/01.
Now I work for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC)
in their Chief Information Officer's Office doing information technology,
web development and Palm Pilot applications. Visit our government
web site at www.Navfac.Navy.Mil |

Hello fellow classmates —
to update all of you to the comings and goings in my life over the
last 5 years, I’m now the art instructor at a small college
prep school outside of Phoenix Az. I wanted all the art majors to
know this as this is what I decided to do since learning of the death
of our mentor and teacher Claude Falcone. I decided to change my
life and follow in his footsteps as best as I can. After 30 years
in the oil business I have now returned to teaching, and teaching
art, which is all I ever wanted to do. |

Coming
to a new school in the middle of high school
is probably no kid’s idea of a good time,
and I had mixed feelings about it when my family
moved to Pennsylvania. But being near the ocean
and a big city was fun, and I found a niche in
Mr. Falcone’s art major classroom and in
Mrs. Shatagin’s Russian classroom.
After Penncrest, I headed back west to University
of Kansas for a BA in Russian. I got married and moved with my husband
back to PA, arriving in State College on the heels of Hurricane Agnes.
Nels finished grad school at Penn State and stayed on as a professor
of meteorology. We’ve been here ever since, finally becoming
almost “locals.” Our two children grew up here and have
turned into fun adults. Daniel was married a year ago and moved to
Albany. Julia is a junior (pre-vet) at Penn State.
Vacations have mostly been spent visiting
family in Kansas, but in 1980-81 we did live in Hamburg, Germany,
and from there I had a chance to visit Russia for a couple of weeks.
I always seem to gravitate toward libraries,
working at the university library and later volunteering and working
in libraries in the school district. When school’s out for
the summer, I have the chance to indulge in a little more creative
time and I enjoy getting together with a bunch of quilters. |

Hixson Forceno
Graduated from Albright College with a degree in psychology though
I was never interested in pursuing that as a career. I have worked
in management positions in various types of companies and have lived
in three different States which pales beside several of my H.S. classmates!
I am currently in the Accounting Dept. of a small manufacturing company
where I am in charge of billing and receivables. I waited until I
was 43 to marry and it was well worth the wait. We had no children
but like to think we are still children at heart. I am more athletic
now than I ever was in high school - not that I did not try out for
every sport in high school. My husband and I enjoy golfing and biking
together. I enjoy running, although I only get in about 20 miles
per week. Thanks to the committee who made our 35th so successful,
and thanks to all of my classmates for making that evening fun, relaxing,
and memorable. Golfing anyone? |

After PHS, I joined the Marine Corps. For 3 yrs. and did my time
overseas and was discharged in Quantico, Va. I hung around Virginia
for about a year and then returned to Texas. I got a job at a local
gas (natural) company. After the bottom fell out of the oilfield
twice I decided to find a new career. I owned a balloon shop and
started a delivery service, then I went back to school and got my
refrigeration license. That is what I'm doing now. I've been married
3 times and I have 2 children with my first wife and 3 step-children
with my third wife. My son just graduated from Steven F. Austin Univ.
with a B.A. in Criminal Justice, my daughter is married and is graduating
U.T at Tyler with a teaching certificate (who would have thought
my offspring would be that smart?). My step-children are all in school
so I get to do it again (send money). My wife, Linda sells advertising
for the local ABC affiliate. Last but not least, we have a Yellow
Lab(River) and Chocolate Lab(Sadie) and a Dalmatian(Dot) that don't
know they are dogs. There is never a dull moment here. Ya'll have
done a great job with the web site. I look forward to the updates.

Update: Some changes for me -- divorced again. As of June 08, I have twin grandsons, Barrett Lee and Dylan York Johnson. And the heat goes on here in Longview, Texas.

William "Buzz" Jones
I live with my family in the small college town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
... only 8,000 residents but over 2 million visitors annually to
our Civil War battlefield. Married to my soul mate for 23 years with
two children ages 18 and 21 who are both involved in the arts (music
and film). A major goal of turning my bass-playing son into a lover
of funk, soul, and blues has been achieved!
Still passionate about teaching music after
30 years. I am a professor at Gettysburg College and currently chair
the music department, teach jazz history and theory, and direct the
band program. My jazz orchestra, The Buzz Jones Big Band, and our
college groups perform in European jazz festivals during the summer.
I discovered my Welsh roots a few years back and spend time researching
the music and poetry of Wales. Looking forward to a sabbatical in
'03 and more time to compose.
Remember Irv Jacobson, our stellar band
director at PHS from the late '50s until the '80s? I visit with him
and his wife Dolly each summer in Cape May. Spent a week with Craig
Christopher and his family in Boulder, CO a few years back. |

Wow, a lot has gone on, I moved to Connecticut and lived there for
20 + years. I worked for General Dynamics Electric Boat Division,
for seventeen years. I was a structural welder, then I became a pipe
welder and finally a pipe welder supervisor. I was married in 1972,I
have two children. Divorced and married many years later to my current
husband who was a Chief Sonar Tech. in the Navy. We transferred to
S.C. and retired here. I have two children from my first marriage.
My daughter Kim is married and I have two, full-of-life grandchildren.
I also have a son who still lives at home. I welded for a few years
after we moved here. Finally welding took a toll on my body and I
have had both hands operated on and finally a total knee replacement.
I became a partner in a local Pub down here. I am excited about the
business and hope it will do well. |

I
enjoyed catching up with the whereabouts of my
class mates since 1968; I have pretty much been
away from the area since 1971 when I went to
work for Combustion Engineering. This company
changed names and ownership in 1989 to ABB and
now is Alstom Power Inc. I am employed with Alstom
located in the Atlanta area in a small town called
Dawsonville, GA. If you are familiar with the
Atlanta area, Dawsonville is located near Lake
Lanier and the North GA Mountains. My wife Sandra
and I built a log home in the foothills of the
mountains, and enjoy the comfort and privacy
of our acreage. I have two children, Jaycen,
24 and Nicole, 21, completing her last year of
college at the University of Central Florida,
Orlando. Jaycen and his wife Leah were determined
to make me a granddad before my time! My granddaughter
is absolutely gorgeous and now 18 months old!
Our hobbies include many things involving
the outdoors, however, the one I am most well known for is Historic
Sportscar Racing. We campaign a 1964 Corvette and participate at
legendary tracks mostly on the East coast and Mid Western region.
We perform at Sebring prior to the 12 Hour American Lemans and the
24 Hours of Daytona. It's hard to believe in school I use to be a
Ford driver! Actually I still like them too! I try to pass one every
chance I get.
If any of you get to this part of the
world please call. My wife and I love to take people into town for
dinner and a relaxing evening. |

Kirby
I graduated from Furman University in 1972, having married a Furman
classmate (Nancy Sumpter) in February of our Senior Year. I entered
the Army after graduation and served on active duty for two years.
After I left the Army I worked for Prentice Hall Publishing Company
for 15 years and left in 1989 to become VP of Sales and Marketing
for MacMillan Publishers. Just two weeks ago I accepted an offer
to return to Prentice Hall, now owned by Pearson Education. I will
be starting a new division for them focusing on career education
institutions like DeVry, ITT, and University of Phoenix.
Nancy and I have two wonderful daughters.
Laura Beth is 21 and will be a senior at St. Lawrence University
where she is a double major in Fine Arts and English. She also rows
varsity crew and competed well at the international Head of the Charles
regatta in Boston. She leaves in a few weeks for fall semester in
London. Pamela Ann is 19 and will start her sophomore year at William
Smith. She is a double major in Chemistry and Physics and won both
the Outstanding Freshman Chemistry and Outstanding Freshman Physics
awards. Like father like daughter! (Yeah, right. Obviously Nancy's
genes are at work here).
Nancy taught Math for 10 years until
Laura came into our lives. She stayed at home to care for the children
until they were both of school age. She then began substitute teaching
and continues that now. She also does math tutoring and now has about
30 students who come to her for help.
We live in Saratoga Springs, NY, home of
the oldest operating thoroughbred track in the country. The season
opens Wednesday. If you'd like to place a bet, just mail me your
money and I'll let you know if you win. I play mandolin, banjo, and
guitar in a bluegrass band for fun (since nobody will pay us). |

After Penncrest, I graduated from Villanova, then later completed
a Masters in Education at University of Pennsylvania. For the past
14 years, I've worked as Executive Assistant to the Provost at Swarthmore
College. I have a wonderful daughter Erin, who's 21 now and off on
her own, so now I am living with my best buddy, Cody, a golden retriever.
It's astonishing to think that 35 years
have gone by so fast, and I look forward to the reunion next year.
It will be fun to see old friends again. |

L. LaChette Jones
In 1971 I married George Jones (no, not the
country singer!) whom I started dating in April 1968 and had escorted
me to our Penncrest Senior Prom. We have been in and out of various
types of car racing since we met. He "wrenched" a modified stock car for 3
years just before we married. In 1991 we got into Mico Midget/Mini
Sprint racing and were very successful placing in the top 10 6 out
of the 8 years we competed. In 1998 we took the championship in our
division. What a blast! But things were not always good, in 1993
I was diagnosed with breast cancer, went through 6 months of chemo,
33 radiation treatments and 9 months of being bald. The racing was
a great inspiration for me during those times. I am happy to say
that I was just confirmed cancer free for 8 years! George and I have
since left the racing circuit, but still remain close with our own
vinyl graphics business, G & S Graphix. I took a lay-off from
my 30 year job at The Franklin Mint to join George in our business.
So, if anyone out there should need anything lettered, trucks, windows,
banners... please give us a call! Super discounts for Penncrest alumni! |

Lived in New York City while in graduate school at Columbia University.
Got two graduate degrees there, in counseling. Returned to Philadelphia
area where I taught abnormal psychology on the college level and
worked as a counselor/therapist with all sorts of folks. Studied
many of the world religions and pursued work in spiritual studies
where I began seeing God or the goodness in each person. Became ordained
as a minister in 1991. Also worked with alot of animals. Was married

West Virginia—country style—awaiting my next mission. I know while
at Penncrest I was a combination of shy and unfriendly to some of
you. Please forgive me. I regret that now. Hope everyone is doing
well. |

C. Lockwood
After High School, I attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. Graduated from there in 1972 and sailed various Naval and Merchant vessels for a while. In 1975, I joined Offshore Logistics, a Marine Service Company supporting the Offshore Oil Industry. We worked Indonesia and Singapore, Egypt, Saudi, Iran and the Emirates, the North Sea, the Caribbean, Alaska and California. It was great. In 1978 my partner and I wrecked a car in Trinidad and were Medevaced to Florida. Since neither of us had a permanent residence, when the hospital discharged us they sent us to Media. While visiting an old boss in Philadelphia, I was offered a job with the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) designing ships. It took some months, but eventually I accepted and moved back into the area. In 1980, I bought a house in Media and married for the first time. The marriage lasted about a year but I kept the hose and remained in Media. I became immersed in my work. We designed and built about 100 ships of all types and sizes during that period in all kinds of places. We even built a dredge, complete with tugs and barges in the middle of the desert on the White Nile in Sudan! I met my wife Beth at a wedding reception of mutual friends. We married in 1988. We have one son, Joshua who is at Penn State. In 1995, I transferred to the Operations Division of the Philadelphia District USACE. In 2003, I was selected as Chief of Operations of the Pittsburgh District and we moved to “the Burgh” in January 2004. Done a lot of National and International projects in the last couple years. Recently, took a turn as Chief of Operations for the Mississippi Valley out of Vicksburg, MS. Great experience. I’m looking for that one last career move and maybe do the SES thing, before retirement. I’ll let you know when I figure it out! |

Thomas P. Mickle
I have be wandering further South with each job opportunity. Spent
17 years at Duke University as an athletics administrator, then moved
to the Atlantic Coast Conference Office for 12 years as Associate
Commissioner. Left that position in October to come to Orlando as
the executive director of Florida Citrus Sports. My very competent
staff runs the Capitol One Florida Citrus Bowl, the Visit Florida
Tangerine Bowl and the Rotary Gridiron Classic. We have numerous
other sporting events that we produce in Central Florida. I have
a terrific wife, Jill, and two children, Matt (18) and Holland (3).
Matt has just graduated from high school and is taking a year off
before moving on to college. Holland is not in school, she spends
most of the day bossing Mommy around. It has been a wonderful life,
thanks to a great start at Penncrest. Those were fun times and will
always be remembered. Orlando FL
April 2006 - Memoriam:
Tom
Mickle, a former ACC administrator who helped
design the system that eventually became the
Bowl Championship Series, died Monday [4-17-2006]
in Orlando, Fla. He was 55. Mickle had been undergoing
twice-weekly chemotherapy treatments for several
weeks, but a cause of death was not made public
Monday. Mickle lived and worked in the Triad
from July 1989 until September 2001, when he
accepted the leadership of Florida Citrus Sports,
the oversight organization of two bowl games
and other events in Orlando. While in Greensboro,
he laid groundwork for college football reform,
conducted market and institutional research that
led to Florida State's admission to the league
in 1990 and forged still-standing alliances between
the ACC and two major bowl games. Colleagues
and friends suggested Monday that creativity
and intellect and football were comparatively
trivial elements in a legacy in college sports
that began when he graduated from Duke in 1972
and joined the athletics department there. "Tom
Mickle was a man of great integrity," Duke
athletics director Joe Alleva said. "Tom
was the consummate professional and an even better
person." Mickle took on issues of a national
scope when he helped league commissioners codify
the procedures of what became known as the Bowl
Coalition. That organizational structure was
a precursor to the BCS. A native of Media, Pa.,
Mickle is survived by his wife Jill; a son, Matthew;
and a daughter, Holland. — excerpted

Miller Hill
It's great that we are all reconnecting at this point in our lives.
I have had a very full life. During the
70';s I lived out west for about 8 years, which included living in
a school bus in the mountains while at the University of New Mexico.
Then on to San Francisco where I started and ran a nursery school
for low income families fro several years. I married and had 2 great
kids.
When my children were 2 and 6 I returned
to school to study Geology at Bryn Mawr College. In the late 80's
my husband and I divorced. Several years later I married a terrific
guy (also a geologist and pianist). My husband has 3 sons, I have
a daughter and a son. Lots of good times and lots of college tuition.
I am a still a geologist and 11 years ago
started an Environmental Consulting and Engineering Company in Pennington
NJ (www.hillenv.com). We have
25 employees and focus on cleaning up contaminated soil and ground
water mostly at industrial properties as well as doing more conventional
engineering. I like my job most of the time. |

William "Bill" Miller
Hello
everyone! In 1972, I graduated from Cornell University
with fellow classmates Dave Nash, Sally Rogers
and Beth Dripps. I immediately moved south of
the Mason-Dixon Line settling down in Columbia,
Maryland. I worked for the Development Company
of the New Town of Columbia, The Rouse Company,
from 1972-1977. I helped the early design team
as a Landscape Architect. In 1977 I shifted careers
and became a member of a group that started up
a seafood business we named Today's Catch Seafood.
Twenty-five years later I am the remaining shareholder
and operate the business with the assistance
of my brother Jim Miller, P71.
I married in 1983 and enjoyed a fast
paced and exciting life along with my talented fine artist wife,
Susan. Fate intervened and we eventually separated and divorced.
I have no offspring.
I am currently involved with a number of
volunteer endeavors that include Historic Preservation, Community
Development and Business Coaching. For fun and excitement I still
enjoy skiing, travel, gardening, golf and I have been racing sports
cars since 1995. |

I have held a few different jobs prior to being

Mistovich Joern
After graduating from the Phila. College of Art, I spent 15 years
as a freelance graphic designer in Manhattan. I was divorced in 1982
and in 1985, my son, Reese, and I left NYC for upstate NY so I could
attend law school (Union University, Albany Law School). In 1990,
I adopted my daughter, Katie. Reese is 24 and studying acupuncture
and oriental medicine in VT. He is a thoughtful and accomplished
young man and definitely makes me proud. Katie is 14, entering eighth
grade and enjoying life (she just came home from a month in the Yucatan).
Katie brings joy to everyone around her. She is beautiful inside
and out. I prosecuted cases of child abuse and neglect until 1997
when I went into private practice. In 2001, I accepted a position
with NYS as an administrative law judge. We live in a rural community,
are surrounded by dogs, cats, horses and assorted birds, rabbits
and little creatures. We are looking forward to a move this fall
onto a small farm with more land to accommodate our growing menagerie.
I'm excited about the renovation of the farmhouse, it's old and filled
with potential. |

Wendy
Mohr Parker
BA Psych Susquehanna U. '72. Married '72.
Lived in CT, moved to OH, moved back to CT, onto CA, had daughters
Stacey, in Anaheim, CA 1976, Stephanie, in Riverside, CA 1979,
moved to VA, had Erin, in Herndon VA 1980, then to NJ, NC, now
in MD since '94. Tom took a job in NB and that's where I (finally)
drew the line. (Plus, he decided he liked somebody else!) Divorced
'01. My family has been my "career," though
I have returned to school to study art and have "half" a
degree in Interior Design (damn those moves...!) and am an expert
at volunteer jobs. Spend time in ME every chance I get and have taken
up hiking with my brothers. Every day is a new adventure and I absolutely
believe that "we're not getting older, we're getting better."
I'm still "content to be content." May see you at the reunion
if I'm not hiking the John Muir Trail.
UPDATE: Surprise. It's Wendy (Mohr)(Lewis) Parker.
Do you remember Bob Parker from our graduating
class? He was a Media guy? He
and I dated in high school (went to the senoir prom together) and
college. He is a Haverford Township cop and when my Dad passed away
in Dec '03 Bob read his obituary in the Delaware County Times, sent
me a beautiful sympathy card and, well, here we are. We were married
May 12, 2005 and moved to Kennett Square in late July. |

Jeffrey "Carmine" Montella
Went
into Healthcare, spent 15 years living in the
South (Chapel Hill, NC and Virginia Beach, VA).
Started using the name Jeffrey in North Carolina
when the locals back in 1972 didn't understand
Italian names! It stuck and so I have been Jeffrey
ever since. Moved back to the area in the mid
1980's, working in Healthcare and eventually
started my own business. Sold the business last
year and am now living in retirement between
my home in Wilmington, DE and Rehoboth Beach,
DE. Looking into the possibility of starting
another business and in the meantime just chilling
out. |

That
darn computer class we had to take got me started
in that field. Ended up being a programmer for
quite a few years. I had my first child in 1971.
She is married and has a son age 7. Stayed in
the computer field until 1980. In 1982 I married
a Texan. He built towers for radio stations.
We drove all over the country building sites.
Seeing it all from the back roads and towns.
I think we've eaten in every Shoney's that exists,
and all of the greasy spoon restaurants across
the country. We had 2 children. By the age of
4, our daughter had been in 22 states already.
Learned to crawl and walk in motel hallways and
job sites. She loved watching daddy go up in
the air. After our son was born in 1991, it was
too hard to be on the road, so a year later we
started our own company. In 1994 there came that
dreaded knock at the door, the cop telling me
of a tower accident. Our lives changed drastically.
The kids and I stayed here in Texas, San Antonio
area. School year 1995-96 I was a host parent
for a foreign exchange student, Sveta, who became
my fourth child. We still keep in contact. In
1996 I bought a house, a new car and became a
substitute teacher (so I could stay on the same
schedule as my children). Then 3 years ago, another
member of our Home Owner's Association was starting
a new company and asked me to run it. I love
a challenge! So I took the job. It's been hard
but alot of fun. I am an office manager for a
company that sells golf carts. I still don't
play golf, but I'm great at driving the carts,
and spitting out part numbers. Need a 36 volt
solenoid? That's an 8016. Can you tell the parts
manager was on vacation last week? I told the
service manager he's not even allowed to take
lunch, I refuse to get greasy! It's a great group
of people, just not good for keeping your sanity. |

I have enjoyed working for the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District

I've remained in the Delaware Valley since graduation. I loved reading

After college I lived in an apartment in Rosemont, PA for 3 years
with Bill Haines and Dave Charles. Now, it seems, we only speak at
reunions!! I am an engineer and have worked for several companies
and for the last 10 years, state government. My jobs have taken me
kicking and screaming to Puerto Rico for a year and Florida for 6
years.
I am now living my dream. I am one
of 800 full time residents of Barnegat Light, NJ (that's at the shore).
My girlfriend lives with me as does her 20 year old daughter, when
she is home from college. Not many dull moments, even in the winter. |

I've just spent the last hour reading everybody's doings and whereabouts
and realized my name wasn't on there. Am looking forward to seeing
everybody in July!
I went to college for a short time in Delaware
and then transferred to a college in Colorado. Spent a couple years

John
Joseph Riley - In Memoriam submitted
by Lois Hetherington Mace
After
John graduated from high school he entered the
Navy. In November of 1970, he married Lois
Hetherington (also a 68 Penncrest graduate)
and they were married for almost 29 years. John
and Lois had one daughter, Elizabeth Anne who
is now 21 and she has a son, Corbin Riley Hyatt.
John received his Honorable Discharge from the
Navy in 1972. His first few years of civilian
life he worked for various companies. In 1976,
he went to work for the British Petroleum Company
in Marcus Hook, Pa. John worked there for approximately
20 years, until they sold out to another company.
That's when John, Lois, & Beth packed up & moved
to Dallas, Texas to begin a new life. John quickly
became employed with Dart Container Co. in Waxahachie,Texas
as an area manager. He loved his family, Texas
and fishing. He became quite an avid fisherman.
John had a fishing boat, quite a collection of
fishing rods, and a lot of fishing gear. Unfortunately,
in January of 1999 John was diagnosed with cancer.
Almost 5 months later on May 6th,1999, John passed
away. John's optimistic and positive attitude
is missed by many and he left behind family and
friends who loved him dearly. |

I entered the Navy upon graduating in 1968. I spent a year in Guantanamo
Bay, Cuba and a year at Cinclantflt Headquarters, Norfolk, Va. I
married in 1970, and attended Penn State University from 1972 to
1974 where I earned a degree in Wildlife Technology. Upon graduating
from Penn State I moved to Wyoming. My first job after coming to
Wyoming was a police officer. I then applied for and landed a job
as a Range Technician with the Bureau of Land Management, which is
where I am today (retirement in 3 years!!). I got divorced in 1993,
lost my sister Karen to cancer in 1998 at the age of 46 and remarried
to a local girl here in Lander in 2000. I love to travel and play
golf, do a little bit of fishing, hunting and skiing and am involved
with a church here in Lander. I am currently studying futures and
commodities and hope to supplement my retirement income so my wife
and I can travel. If any one out there remembers me, I would like
to hear from you. My buddy at work actually located this web site
for me out of curiosity and when I started to read it and the profiles,
it brought back a lot of memories. I would like to attend this years
reunion, but will be unable to do so. Hopefully, I can make it next
year. Hope everyone is doing great. God bless!! |

I've been working out, eating right and reprioritizing
my career objectives. I've become environmentally responsible, politically
aware and financially prudent. I've cleaned my closets, made peace
with my mother, gotten back in touch with my personal code of ethics,
rediscovered reading and reinvested in my dreams. I'm saying "no" to
fat, caffeine, tanning and emotional addiction and scheduling quality
time with myself each week to regroup, refocus and reaffirm my commitment
to the simple, honest values that give meaning to life. I'm as confident,
happy and peaceful as I've ever been. On the other hand, my life
is the poster child for boring. I've been married 34 years and have
a 22 year old son and 18 year old daughter, both of whom are in college.
(We waited to have children until we could afford them. Hah! The
joke was on us. You can never afford them!) Because of my husband's
job, we've lived in PA, MD, IL, CA and WA and currently live in VA.
As soon as we shake the last child out of the house, we plan to retire
to Florida and spend our time diving. |

Phyllis J. Steward Mills
After graduation I worked for a small clothing store until it went out of business. In 1970 I started
working for State Farm Insurance as an IBM keypuncher. In Aug,1973 I married. In 1975 I left State Farm on maternity leave. After having our first child, a son, I decided to quit to stay home and take care of him myself instead of daycare. In 1978
we had a daughter. In 1984 when both the kids
were in school, I went back to work part time
for a real estate business for 3 years. Actually
it was a combination of two different real estate
businesses within a 3 year period. I left the
job and decided to try a business cleaning homes
on my own. I did that for about 2 years and got
sick of it. In 1990 I started working for a dental/beauty
equipment supplier as a receptionist and eventually
doing work with the monthly sales flyers on the
computer. In 1995 the company moved to New York
so therefore I was out of a job. I collected
unemployment til it ran out. After that I worked
for a couple cleaning a business for about a
year and quit. Since that I have been home. As
you already know, I am married to a former classmate, Tom
Mills. It will be 30 years August 4, 2003.
We have been living at this address since Jan,
1980. We have 2 great kids, Tommy Jr (soon to
be 27) and Victoria (Tori) (soon to be 24, married
and expecting with her first child in December.)
Finally I will be a Grandmother. Both our kids
own a home and live on the same street as us.
Our daughter lives next door and our son lives
10 houses up on same side. We have alot of fun
together. In 1996 I decided I wanted to learn
how to ride a motorcycle so I took the safety
course. I first owned a Honda 250 cycle and eventually
bought a brand new 99 Suzuki 650 cycle. It was
something I wanted to do and now I am selling
it. Tom has a big Harley so now I just ride with
him. Well that's about it. Not a real exciting
life but we love it. We have a wonderful family,
our health, nice home and love. That is all we
need. Oh, and we also have 3 cats and a dog. |

Heard it though the grapevine that a reunion
was taking place,so I looked for this web site. I am alive
and well and living in Newark, Delaware-an R. N. working at
ChristianaCare. I am a grandmother to an adorable 5 year old
named Ashlynn, whose mommy (my daughter) also works in the
health care industry-quite an accomplished young lady, if I
may brag. I have one 6'5" son
(that was the last measurement—I stopped doing that about
one and a half years ago before yet another growth spurt)
that is still at home and attending college-hoping to become
another computer guru. Reading through the profiles, it seems
we, as a class, turned out more than "okay"...who
knew! Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the reunion.
I'll be away on vacation. Hope all goes well. |

Carol Weinmann Savournin
Art school, married in '71, two sons. Divorced in '78, single mom
for 7 years while working for Common Pleas Court of Chester Co. Remarried
in '85 to Jeff, two step-daughters. Jeff and I have owned and operated
4 or 5 Dairy Queens in Chester Co. for the last 17 years. Fun! We
have 3 kids married, 3 granddaughters and 2 more grands on the way.
Yikes! Having a lot more fun since the kids left home. It's their
turn to worry and be responsible. My turn to play, now. Still fooling
around with the art supplies. I love working for the Phila. Folk
Festival, attended every year for the past 17. Attended two previous
reunions, looking forward to this one eagerly.
UPDATE – February, 2008
Having sold our stores to younger, more energetic owners and "Passed
the torch" in the Dairy Queen World, I found myself back at
the Chester County Court of Common Pleas after being called for Jury
Duty 4 years ago...and wound up taking my old job back! I always
loved working in the Courtroom.....and only working 40 hours a week
instead of 80 felt like retirement! Truly, I do it for fun, and my
husband (Mr. Wonderful) is enjoying his freedom as a retired businessman.
Every day is Saturday!! We have a total of 7 grandkids, now...have
purchased a 36' motorhome and are learning the joys of taking to
the road and following our noses. We have a lot of vacation time
to make up! See you on the road.

Lynne Wilkinson Dean
It is great to hear from all of you! Here's what I have been up to
since graduation.
I chose to attend Monmouth College in NJ for two
reasons: ONE; there was no college on my beloved Long Beach Island, & TWO;
Monmouth was located 1 mile from the beach
& I was told lots of the boys studied there in between catching
the waves. This fulfilled two of the three requisite parameters
I had set early in life which were to maximize romantic encounters
& minimize schoolwork interference of my tanning ritual. That
only left one nagging component which was to avoid anything (i.e.,
studying) that required any effort on my part whatsoever. I had
thought my choice of college would have fit the bill. After all,
its reputation as Playboys' party school of the year should have
said it all. After a brief sense of security of straight A's at
midterm, reality slapped me in the face with a charming assortment
of one of everything as a final grade. It took another year for
me to learn to study and love to learn, and I graduated Dean's List
in 1972 with a degree in Foreign Language (Spanish &
Italian) and a teachers cert. I also separated myself from the wallpaper
and served as Social Chairman, Pledgemother, and President of my
sorority. After three dangerously close calls near the alter, I got
a job that I will always remember fondly.
I was hired as a private contract teacher
for the Army at Ft. Dix, NJ. At 24, I was teaching the new, All-Volunteer
Army—men ranging in age from 18-32. I was first hired to teach
English to Puerto Rican recruits. After that, the Army saw no reason
why I couldn't repeat that success with South Korean recruits. Then
the real fun began. I was to teach men from the worst ghettos of
our big cities and the most rural Appalachian hamlets to read. Not
only were they illiterate, they had SERIOUS criminal records and
had been given the choice of joining the army or going to jail. It
was absolutely the most rewarding and enlightening teaching experience
I have ever had. Upon starting this job, I fortuitously moved into
an apartment complex of Air Force pilots where I immediately met
Bob Dean, a C141 pilot, who was anxious to get out of the Air Force
and move back home to Texas.
He left in 1975, we married in 1977 and
I joined him in Austin where he was getting his Masters degree in
Accounting from the Univ. of Texas. A brief stint in Dallas, and
then to the family home in San Antonio in 1979. Here our daughter
Devon Elizabeth was born and grew to be an avid horsewoman. She was
ranked 3rd in the state when boys started showing up. She graduated
from Texas A&M with a degree in Accounting in 2001, and last
year took over the family's investments and Bobs' CPA practice so
that he could retire and spend full time going to Aircraft Mechanics
school and building a plane; an RV 8. She just married on January
4,2003 to a former horse trainer who has gotten her to reject English
riding and French Dressage for Western Team Penning. They now have
a small horse farm, and it is her intention to never leave Texas.
My younger daughter, Lauren Evans, born in 1981, has also been a
complete joy. A natural athlete, she eventually chose tennis and
was also state ranked at the Super champion level. She graduated
H.S. in three years, 8th in her class, and left for Wake Forest University
in NC where she graduates May 19,2003, with a Masters degree in Accounting.
She will get the results of the CPA exam in August and to keep her
mind off of it is leaving on a month-long Outward Bound Adventure
sailing off Puget Sound and mountain climbing in the Central Cascades.
She will then head to Austin and The Univ.of Texas for law school
in August. Her intention is to live in New York City where she did
two internships last year. I'm hoping she will meet a nice Texas
boy and change her mind.
I spent two years designing and building
our new home in Garden Ridge, north of San Antonio, and after moving
in, in 1987, I went back to college and got recertified in Library
Science and spent 8 years as a part-time H.S. librarian but now spend
most of my time gardening (organically) and volunteering in the Garden
Ridge City Library which I helped establish. I still love traveling
and reading (histories & mysteries) and collecting: pill boxes,
antique chocolate molds, and 18th & 19th century miniature portraits
on ivory. I've spent part of every summer on Long Beach Island, except
for this one! Because my mother has just moved here I won't be coming
east and will therefore miss the reunion. So please forgive this
long winded account. Hopefully every class member will fill out a
profile and perhaps a compilation could be made of all the profiles
and classmate information. It would be a wonderful momento. I would
enjoy hearing from Y'ALL! |

Am I the only one amazed to have a reunion on
the internet? Who in June '68 would have thought we would reconnect
electronically? Everyone seems so "easy" with interacting
on the web. I am glad to see how many have done much and are having
good lives. I await Chuck's picture to see what not getting older
looks like. For the past few years I have been working in Lancaster,Pa..
Relationships have come and gone, now I share my space with a couple
of domestic short hairs- Buster and Taffy. I just toss the unopened
AARP mail. A couple of years ago I reconnected with people I knew
at Penn State - I found they held memories of things I'd forgotten
and I likewise for them. It had been a lot of years since I thought
about Penncrest when Carol called, so I look forward to recalling
the past with your help. |
